Feb 18, 2016- Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said he would support another party leader Ram Chandra Poudel for the prime minister’s post if he gives up his claim for party presidency.
Deuba proposed Poudel to become the next PM and let him take charge of the party. “It will send a clear message of unity inside the party if Poudel becomes PM and I become party president,” Deuba said at a press meet on Thursday. “I will support Poudel in his bid to become the next PM for the sake of party unity.”
Poudel, who is also the acting President of the party following the death of leader Sushil Koirala, had turned down Deuba’s proposal in the past.
Deuba also said his claim for party presidency was to address the current national issues and strengthen intra-party unity. “I won’t let the party become hostage of indecision like the past due to which we lost government-appointed parliamentarians, CEO of reconstruction authority and many other key positions,” Deuba said.
