Feb 4, 2016- India's Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said that the Indian government is ready to supply the petroleum products to Nepal as per the current demand.
In a meeting with Nepali ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay in Mumbai, Minister Pradhan said the Indian Oil Corporation is ready to make arrangement for additional supply apart from the regular quota of Nepal Oil Corporation.
"The Indian government seems ready to prioritise the border crossings that have become normal and to provide additional fuel to end the crisis," said envoy Upadhyay, who attended a special "Make in India" function organised in Maharastra.
During the meeting Minister Pradhan said the concernd government bodies have been directed to take initiatives for easy supply of fuel, gas, and medicine, among other essential commodities.
Ambassador Upadhyay drew Minister Pradhan's attention towards lack of enough supply of gas and fuel even from the borders that have not been obstructed.
On the sidelines, Nepali officials held discussions regarding the NOC's negligence and sloppiness in distributing the fuel despite having enough stock. However, the NOC has not communicated with the Indian Oil Coroporation regarding additional supply of fuel.
"Minister informed that Birgunj-Raxaul border will also coming into operation in a few days," Upadhyay said, "The growing political consensus after the amendment of constitution has raised hopes that the ongoing obstructions at the border points would be removed."
Nepali Embassy's economic minister Dhundi Raj Pokharel, Nepal-India Joint Economic Council Chairman and entrepreneur Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Indian Oil Corporation Chairman B Ashok, among other officials, were present during the meeting.
