Apr 1, 2016- Nepal Government has concluded that EU-India joint statement issued in Brussels on Wednesday, in reference to Nepal’s newly promulgated constitution, as altogether inappropriate.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers that was held on Friday morningdecided that the nature of the EU-India joint statement was disruptive to thesovereignty of Nepal.
Spokesperson for the government and Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai said that today’s meeting mostly discussed the EU-India joint statement.
Earlier, on Thursday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli fiercely responded to the EU-Indian statement and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) had issued a statement stating the India-EU joint statement “is against the principle of non-interference in internal affairs of a country.”
Point 17 of the joint statement released after the 13th EU-India summit stated that “India and the EU have agreed on the need for a lasting and inclusive constitutional settlement in Nepal that will address the remaining constitutional issues in a time-bound manner, and promote political stability and economic growth.”
Nepal had taken serious exception to the EU-India joint statement.
Expressing serious dissent over the joint statement, the government urged all to refrain from making “any uncalled for statement .
