The ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on 9 April 2016 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the opening ceremony of the country's biggest extravaganza will be held on 8 April 2016.

The inaugural match of the tournament between the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, and the newcomers, Rising Pune Supergiants will be held the next day.
The opening ceremony of the Vivo IPL promises to include a number of performances from eminent Bollywood personalities such as Jacqueline Fernandez, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Katrina Kaif and Ranveer Singh.

As per sources, an all-girl English pop band called TBC is also set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Vivo IPL 2016. The jamboree is also going to feature over 200 dancers, performers, folk artists, and percussionists.

“Ferriswheel is all set to put together a mad cricket party which will enliven the spirit of cricket. For the first time ever, India will see a 360 degree experience of seamless graphics and projection and state of the art technology- all in one show.”

Ferriswheel Entertainment is a Mumbai-based event management company which has been given the privilege to organise the opening ceremony for this year’s Indian Premier League.
In an interview given to the media, one of the members of the organising committee said, “There will be a few surprises in store. This will be an event to remember.”

The opening ceremony of this year's Vivo IPL has been scheduled to start on 8 April from 7.30 pm

This year’s Vivo Indian Premier League will witness the advent of two new teams, namely, Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants in place of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The latter two teams have been suspended from the Indian Premier League for a couple of years with Chennai Super King’s Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals’ Raj Kundra banned from the extravaganza for life.
The Gujarat Lions franchise has been bought by Keshav Bansal, the Director of Intex Technologies and the Rajkot-based team will play their home matches at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

On the other hand, Rising Pune Supergiants had been successfully purchased by the Kolkata-based businessman, Sanjiv Goenka. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men will be playing their home games at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
