NEW DELHI: A man was detained while trying to throw a shoe at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal when he was addressing a press conference on the second odd-even plan in the city.

The shoe did not hit the chief minister and was caught by an AAP supporter who was present on the dais with him. Kejriwal later continued with the press conference.

The attacker, identified as Ved Prakash, claimed he was from Aam Aadmi Sena, a breakaway faction of AAP. He talked about alleged irregularities in distribution of CNG stickers and claimed that no action has been taken though a complaint was filed by him.

Cars running on CNG are exempt from the second phase of odd-even scheme which would be launched on April 15.

Congress's PC Chacko blamed Kejriwal's 'authoritarian style' of functioning for the incident. "This is not done by any other party. This is because of Kejriwal's authoritarian style of functioning. But we condemn the incident," he said.

Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai condemned the incident, saying "it would not deter our aim to provide good governance and our commitment towards a cleaner environment". "It's an act done by a frustrated man. Incidents like these keep on happening," he added.
