The match in a tweet: Rising Pune Supergiants seamers dismantle the Mumbai Indians top order to secure a thumping win in their IPL debut.

The heroes: Ishant Sharma and Mitchell Marsh's opening spells set up the game for Pune. Ishant silenced the Mumbai crowd by dismissing their captain Rohit Sharma with a sharp in-swinger with his very first ball and followed it up next over when he castled the in-form Lendl Simmons. Marsh also struck with his very first ball, dismissing the dangerous Hardik Pandya and then produced gorgeous out-swinger to get rid of English wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler. The pair had combined figures of 6-0-30-4, including 24 dot balls from their first spells, and aside from some late-order resistance from Harbhajan Singh, Mumbai never really recovered.

The support cast: Small targets often be tricky to chase down, but not when you have someone like Ajinkya Rahane at the top of the order. With a wealth of experience on the Wankhede ground, Rahane showed his class against the new, swinging ball opposition. His first ball swung sharply into him but dispatched it with a perfect on-drive for four. Rahane would follow that up with nine more sweetly timed boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 66 of 42 balls to guide Pune to a comfortable win.

The consolation effort: The 'Turbanator', Harbhajan Singh’s swashbuckling innings of 45 from just 30 balls ensured the defending champions managed to register something resembling a competitive score. Coming in the 12th over at 6/51, Harbhajan pushed and nudged his way to 17 from 21 balls before exploding in the last two overs. He smashed five fours and a six in his last nine balls to take Mumbai to 121 and then backed that up with figures of 1/24 from his three overs to cap off a fine night for the veteran off-spinner.
